Micro and Pure Skagit Rod Release

"Feel The Difference!"

Any labor of love will have its trials and tribulations. There will be setbacks and stumbles, a little blood and a whole lot of sweat.   A laser-beam focus on your ultimate vision is required, even if that means burning what you have in front of you and starting fresh. Our OPST Micro and Pure Skagit Rods were very much a labor of love, and 5 years and 4 versions later we are proud to finally release them to the public!

There two-handed rods are truly a representation of lead Designer Ed Ward’s vision throughout, and we are all very proud of final rendition we’re bringing to market. Ed is looking for a rod with a lot of “feed back” while Skagit casting stroke. Why? It helps you feel the rod load, improving your over-all casting stroke. He also wants a rod to feel light in-hand, and to be very “lively” when fighting a fish. For Ed, it all boils down to feeling, and we couldn’t agree more!

Olympic Peninsula Skagit Tactics is proud to release our very own line of Micro Skagit and Pure Skagit Two-Handed Rods, designed by Ed Ward. We developed our rods over five years during which we refined the taper to represent Ed’s concepts. It will initially include six rods in total, ranging from a 9’9” Micro Skagit Two-Handed 3wt up to an 11’6 8wt, and every whole rod weight in-between. This line-up will be classified by design differences, into two categories: Micro Skagit and Pure Skagit rods. These rods were designed by Skagit legend Ed Ward and represent decades of dedication purely to sustained-anchor two-handed casting. A rod reflects its designer, and these rods are a true illustration of Ed’s vision.

OPST Two-Handed Rods // Complete Setup

OPST Micro and Pure Skagit Rod Line Combos are available, offering the angler the opportunity to have the guess work taken out of the equation. For a limited time, when you buy one of our rods, you’ll receive a free Commando Head and Lazar Line to match! Ed Ward has designed our rods to be able to cast a variety of Commando Head weights, and our experts have dialed things down to two choices of Commando Head per rod for you to choose from. Our rods will cast well with either choice, so if you’re a new Skagit caster or tend to like your lines a little on the heavy side, choose the heavier option. If you’re a proficient Skagit caster or tend to like your lines not as heavy, choose the lighter option. Our Micro Skagit Rods are a great option for people looking to utilize single-hand and two-hand Skagit tactics for trout and warmwater fish up to about 5 pounds, giving the angler the option to cast a wide variety of fly sizes. When ordering, please indicate in the “comments” box at check-out which of the Commando Head options per rod you’d like. Our Pure Skagit Rods are a great option for people looking to utilize two-hand Skagit tactics for trophy trout and warmwater fish up to large steelhead and salmon, also giving the angler the option to cast a wide variety of fly sizes. When ordering, please indicate in the “comments” box at check-out which of the Commando Head options per rod you’d like and what color Lazar Line (Pink or Green).

MEET THE MAKER

Everything we do at OPST revolves around the vision of one man, Ed Ward. His name is well known in all two-handed casting circles, as is his reputation for being precise and exacting. He has fished and guided all over the world in some of the toughest places out there, from Alaska to British Columbia to Kamchatka, Russia. Known to some as “Skagit Master”, other as “Obi-Wan”, all will agree that Ed’s name carries some impact. A rod is always a reflection of its designer, which is perhaps why we like them so much. It’s a feeling you get when you sense the rod load, the intuition you feel when it's time to drive that cast into the distance. Long have we practiced what Ed has preached, designing our lines to his rigorous specifications. Now we’re beyond happy to have rods that we can say the same about. Thanks Ed!

BRAND VISION

Ed is looking for a rod with a lot of “feed back” while Skagit casting. Why? It helps you feel the rod load, improving your over-all casting stroke.  He also wants a rod to feel light in-hand, and to be very “lively” when fighting a fish.

Buying a high-end fly rod is a serious investment, and we want you to be 100% comfortable with your purchase.
